Renesas to Quit Standalone Flash Memory Business in Fiscal 2008

Following the company's announcement in 2007 to phase out standalone flash memory production, Renesas - a joint venture between Hitachi and Mitsubishi - confirmed that the company will cease production of standalone 4Gbit and higher flash memories in fiscal 2008 ending on March 31 2009, EETimes reported. According to the same report, the company will concentrate its resources on engineering and design of flash microcontrollers and SoC (System-on-Chip) instead.
